Westminster Village, the Life Plan Community serving Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley, is proud to recognize the retirement of Jan Cockrell. One of the community’s original team members, Cockrell joined the team as Director of Leisure Services even before the newly constructed community opened its doors nearly 40 years ago.
“Although our entire Westminster Village family of team members and residents will miss Jan, her unwavering commitment and passion for this community over the last four decades has earned her a well-deserved, relaxing and rewarding retirement,” says Executive Director Dan Smith. “We’re all just very happy for her!”
Reflecting on her career, Cockrell says, “I have truly enjoyed coordinating special events and am perhaps most proud of the well-rounded program of educational and recreational activities I developed for Westminster Village residents and community members over the years.”
One of Cockrell’s most notable accomplishments was the launch of a motorcoach travel program, serving approximately 500 seniors in the surrounding community for more than 35 years.
What’s next for Cockrell? “I plan to continue teaching as an Adjunct Faculty member at Indiana State University in the Community Engagement Department and will extend my service on the ISU Advisory Council of the College of Health and Human Services. Of course, I’m also looking forward to traveling with friends and family.”
The community will host a retirement party for Cockrell on Friday, June 11 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Westminster Village, located at 1120 E. Davis Drive in Terre Haute. Past colleagues, resident family memories and friends who got to know Cockrell during her tenure at the community are welcome to attend. Attendees are encouraged to call (812) 242-4636 with questions or to confirm their attendance.
