More than a room with a treadmill and resistance bands, we named our fitness center Westminster Athletic Club because it’s designed to bring out the athlete in everyone—at any age. As the saying goes, “If you have a body, you are an athlete.” Our athletic club will help you make the most of it—with resources you can count on—from certified fitness experts to effective equipment.
Fitness Manager On-Site
At your service five days a week on-site, our fitness manager is certified by the National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS). Degreed and certified, NIFS makes sure its managers are trained to help individuals exercise safely and smartly at all ages and stages of life. You’ll receive a personalized plan from our fitness manager—your own prescription for nutrition, functional movement and exercise to help you feel better, build confidence and experience life! Our fitness manager is also available for some on-on- one sessions.
Equipment and Classes
Under the direction of our NIFS fitness manager and trained instructors, residents have exactly what they need to remain on the path to fitness. The Westminster Athletic Club offers everything from state-of- the-art cardio and nautilus equipment to proven low-tech fitness tools like resistance chairs, balance balls and free weights. Plus, instructor-led group classes make exercise fun and effective and are offered to meet virtually any personal schedule, level of ability and fitness goals.

Dan Smith, Executive Director
A St. Louis, Missouri, native, Dan has served in the field of senior living since 2005. “I’m proud to be part of a community with over three decades of service to the Wabash Valley’s seniors and their families,” he says. Dan and his wife, Betsy, enjoy bringing their two children to Westminster Village to interact with residents.
Ken Horstman, Dining Services Director
Ken has an extensive array of experience in the restaurant and dining services field spanning over 36 years, with all of those in the Terre Haute area. When he’s not coordinating the outstanding dining program at Westminster Village, you’ll find him in the great outdoors, golfing, fishing, camping, hunting, hiking and birdwatching. “I love the feeling of family here at Westminster Village,” he relates. “We are all here to help each other.”
Lauren Kelsheimer, Director of Community Life
Lauren’s background includes over 10 years of professional experience in the fitness, wellness and recreation fields. She is a familiar face to many, having worked at Westminster Village for over five years as a contract employee through NIFS Fitness Center Management. She loves creating moments of magic for residents, and when she hears that someone enjoys a program, event or trip, it keeps her motivated to continue to do more and more for them. In her own words, it’s about “creating experiences that people won’t forget.” Lauren prides herself on the ability to connect with people and understand their needs and wants, and feels it’s a big reason she’s been able to achieve her goals as Community Life Director.
Carrie Mathes, Human Resources Director
Carrie has over 10 years of experience in management and customer service, with a strong emphasis on employee engagement and retention. “I love the family environment here, not only with co-workers but with residents and their family members as well,” Carrie says. She and her husband cherish time spent with family, including three children and seven grandchildren.
Melissa Clark, RN, DON
Melissa’s background includes over 25 years in the health care industry, with positions in forensic nursing, emergency room, corrections, intensive care, interventional radiology, pediatrics and medical/surgical. She also has over 15 years in supervisory roles. Melissa is new to Westminster Village, having started in May of 2021, but is excited to become a member of the community and get to know her new co-workers, residents and their families. She takes great pride in her role as a mother to a daughter and two sons.
Sara Young, Move-In Coordinator
Originally from Houston, Texas, Sara relocated to Indiana in 2008. She truly enjoys the opportunity to use her creativity as part of her role in helping residents transition to the community. “I enjoy camping and exploring the many parts and recreation areas within the Wabash Valley with my husband and friends,” she says. She can also be found with her Yorkie, Winston, visiting the community when not on duty.
Amanda Dailey, Admissions & Marketing Coordinator
Amanda’s background includes 15 years of work in the senior living industry. She has been a familiar face around Westminster Village, having worked here for the past three years. Amanda loves being able to share her passion of senior living with the outside community. She prides herself on her continued growth in this industry and ability to rise to any challenge that is presented to her with a positive outlook. Amanda is a native and life-long resident of Wabash Valley and loves spending quality time with her husband and children.
Jamie Cusick, LPN, Health & Wellness Navigator
Jamie has been a nurse for over 20 years…and it’s very evident in the warm, caring manner in which she approaches her passion at Westminster Village. “The exceptional level of care we provide and peace of mind we bring to residents and their families is what makes me most proud of the community,” Jamie says. She relishes the opportunity to have daily interaction with residents and their family members, and says it is satisfying to know Westminster Village is making a difference in their lives. Married to her husband for 17 years, Jamie delights in watching her two daughters play sports.
Rebecca Shake, Residency Counselor
“I truly value the ability to help people,” says Rebecca. “Here at Westminster Village, we really come together as a team to make the process of moving as easy as possible.” Rebecca has been in marketing and sales for over 6 years and enjoys being outdoors, hiking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Kate Webster, Marketing & Sales Director
Kate has developed an extensive knowledge of senior living during her 9+ years in the field. “I love and appreciate the support we receive from the residents of Westminster Village. The fact that so many residents enjoy the lifestyle and encourage their friends to make the Life Plan Community choice is wonderfully gratifying,” she says. Kate attended St. Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana, and spent 8 years in Lexington, Kentucky working in the wedding and event industry. She returned to Indiana in 2008 and has been with communities that are managed by Life Care Services ever since.
Samantha Case, Admissions Specialist
Samantha brings over 10 years of customer service and sales management experience to Westminster Village, with a focus on marketing and recruiting staff. She is already well familiar with the team and residents from her work as a PRN at the community in the fall of 2020. Samantha loves interacting with residents and speaking to families about why Westminster is the best place for their loved ones to receive excellent care. She is most proud of her ability to adapt to any situation, jumping right into projects and accomplishing tasks while also being able to handle any changes as they come. When she’s not working, Samantha loves reading and making crafts. She is also a huge Kentucky Wildcats sports fan, having grown up in the Bluegrass State.
Paige Yontz, Administrator
Paige started working at Westminster Village in July of 2021 and has been in the senior living industry for the past year and a half. Though still in the early stages of her career, she greatly values the large connections she makes across generations. Each day Paige feels honored to be a part of a resident’s life story and works hard to remind herself and fellow team members what a privilege it is to serve the senior population. She is most proud of her dedication to quality care, and prides herself on treating each resident like a member of her own family. Paige graduated from Luther College in Iowa, where she played NCAA Division III volleyball. Outside of work she enjoys traveling, going for a run and catching up on her favorite TV shows.
Laura Jones, PTA, Therapy Program Manager
Laura started working at Westminster Village first of December 2018. She has been a Physical Therapy Assistant, PTA, for 15 years with all the years involved with geriatrics. She has also been a Manager for 11 years. Laura really enjoys the high energy that radiates from the population who live at Westminster. Making a positive impact in someone’s life is what she is most proud of while at Westminster. Laura graduated Vincennes University in 2002 and 2004 with 2 Associates in Science and outside of work I attend my two sons, Kale and Korbin, year around ball games, traveling, and attending professional sporting events and concerts.
Wes Hopkins, Director of Plant & Environmental Operations
Started at Westminster Village on 9 December 2020. Over 30 years’ experience in Plant Operations and Maintenance with 20 of those years being in health care and hospitality. What I enjoy most being in the health care industry is being able to make a difference in the lives of our seniors. Born and raised in Montezuma, Indiana along the Wabash river I grew up enjoying everything outdoors. If you don’t find me at home spending time with my family you will probably find me at my lucky fishing hole or somewhere in the woods.
